Army Man

I Created a Monster!

My son!  The eight year old!  Told me today, that he can’t wait to join the Army!  Now this wasn’t a shock… He has been an  ”Army Man” enthusiast for as long as I can remember words coming out of his mouth.  He has those little green and baig figures hiding in every crack of the house, preparing for an attack.

What gets me is, after the many many many times I have talked about joining a different branch of the military (I have given up trying to convince him to do anything else) he still wants to be in the Army.   I told him the Army has one of the most death tolls, and his reply “That’s why they need me!”

YIKES!

Don’t get me wrong I support all branches of our military… its just that he’s MY SON!  My ONLY son!  And the Army… well we all know the Army and Marines are the ones out there with the large death toll.  Why can’t he just float on the water, or sit in an air tower telling the pilots it’s cool to land =/

I guess it is my fault for teaching him the truth about the military being Heroes.

No! NO! …it’s those little green Army men, hiding in my house…  If only they had a different name… Like: Military Men or Better yet Military Officers …then he wouldn’t be so set on the Army.  He doesn’t know the difference.  I have taken him on NAvy and Marine bases many many times, and if he sees a soldier in their cams he says they are Army.

*Sigh.  There is no stopping it.  He has the best answers to my pleas for him to join a different branch.  Last year I told him to join the Air Force.  He told me, “they are easy targets… up in the air with nothing to hide behind.  Being on the ground is better because you can hide in holes or behind stuff.  Plus it is more fun and good for you, because of all the excercise.”   Whoa!  I was bloan away!  What 7yr old thinks like that?  Hmm.. Mine does.

Today was just another notch on my son’s: me vs. moma belt.

But I tell you this >> He will not join unless he joins as an officer!  College first!  Sorry buddy, If I can return to college and get my degree as a single mom… he has no excusses!

thanx for listening to me vent.

thats so true, its the toy companies fault, damn you mattel, lol! cute blog!

  2. Lol. My 3 year old wants to be a “soldier like Uncle DJ”, my brother. She’s been saying it forever and I’m starting to believe her. She asks to see pictures of soldiers and such. I’m a military brat. I have a close family member in every branch. Dad: Cheif of the air national gaurd, Mom: Army, Brother: Army, Sister: Navy, And uncle: Marines. Yeah, I know… So this I can say, tell your son the Air force is on the ground too. In a big fight, some Air force men stay in the far back and watch videos that tell other soldiers where the bad guys are hiding. It’s a really cool job. It was actually suppose to be my job (74 Delta) when I enlisted in the Air Force. I chickened out though. Only because i can’t bare the thought of leaving my baby behind. I wont do it- no matter how bad I wanted to follow my family footsteps.
